A big part of dance training includes learning through performance. Performance opportunities can contribute to children’s success in non-dance activities. The experience helps build self-esteem and confidence, which can result in better in-school presentations, improved social skills, and strong college and job interview skills. The rehearsal process is a tremendous learning experience as well. It helps the children develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on a group performance, they learn the positive aspects of working as a team to create the best end result.
All students are given the opportunity to participate in our annual recital to be held the second weekend of June. The recital offers our students a beautiful performance opportunity and the chance to celebrate their hard work and progress with their family and friends! Recitals are short, and 100% focused on making 1st experiences on stage magical and stress free for dancers AND their parents!
Daisy and Tulip classes perform one time in the annual recital
Lily, Daffodil Orchid and Level 1 combination classes present two routines and all other students perform one time in each of the styles of dance they are registered for.
In addition, our students in our Lilly, Daffodil, and Orchid classes as well as our Intermediate/Advanced Divisions have the opportunity to participate in our Christmas Charity Performance every other year, an original production "Making Spirits Bright" which benefits Our Military Kids Inc. We are very proud of this production, in addition to teaching our students about the joy of performing, it also allows us to teach them about service to others, and selfless giving! All classes present one dance in our charity show. Costuming is minimal for this performance, with many of the costumes borrowed from the studio.
Costumes We spend many hours determining the correct costumes for each class. They are always age appropriate and of the highest quality possible. Daisy and Tulip classes will have one costume and perform 1 dance. Lily , Daffodil and Orchid classes will have one “Two in One” costume and perform 2 dances all other students will need one costume for each dance form they train in. Costumes include all accessories (hats, gloves, etc.), but do not include tights or shoes. In an effort to ensure that costumes are delivered in time for school photographs and an organized distribution to our students, costume orders are placed during the December holiday break. Costume manufacturers do not accept cancellations or offer refunds; therefore the school does not refund costume deposits. We will conduct a “costume check” day during your child’s regular class the first week of May. At that time we ask parents to come in with their child in full costume, including tights and proper shoes as well as the correct hair style so we can assure that everyone is attired correctly for the big day! Costumes are always age appropriate and of the highest quality possible. Recital Tickets Each family will receive 4 tickets to our annual recital. Additional tickets may be purchased at the front desk beginning April 1st and are available until supplies run out.
Class photos will be taken during dress rehearsal. All students will participate in the group photo. After the group photo shoot, students may choose to have solo portraits made in any or all of their costumes. There is no obligation to purchase photos.
